Critics of Christianity sometimes point out that December 25 was originally a pagan holiday, which the Christians adopted as Jesus birtday. It's absolutely true. However, this was deliberate. The first Christians had to show the pagan world that the true God had come to earth and was conquering the old pagan gods and demons. One way to show this was to build churches on the sites of pagan temples. Another way was to "baptize" pagan holidays, making them celebrations of Christ.
The Christian message was "Move over, false gods, the Son of God has come and is taking over."
Now in the 20th century, we see a similar move as the pendulum swings again. This is why it's important to anti-christians to remove remnants of Christianity from our country. The demons and false gods are continuing to battle for supremacy.
